Oral History Project
Pupils of sixth classes worked on an oral history project in conjunction with Galway Museum and GK Media. They learned about research methods, studied the history of 1916, examined the weapons and uniforms of that time, learned of the poetry associated with 1916, interviewed local residents who had involvement in the Rising, and wrote their own proclamation. You can see some of their work in the video below.
Pupils' Proclamation
In 1916 there was a Rising (Rebellion) in Ireland with the objective of breaking away from Great Britain and forming a Republic. The leader of the provisional government read out a proclamation of the ideals of this Republic outside the GPO (General Post Office). Pupils of sixth classes created a proclamation of the ideals that they feel should be essential elements of a modern-day Republic.
Pupil of the Month Awards
Every month teachers award certificates to pupils in their classes who work well, who help others, and who try hard. The certificates are awarded and presented at the end of each month. This action promotes positive behaviour and good citizenship. The photos are displayed and parents may take these photos. This presentation is for pupils of second, third and fourth classes.

A Healthy Diet
Bernard Dunne, former World Boxing Association Super Bantamweight champion, visited our school to talk to pupils about the importance of healthy eating. He pointed out that most energy drinks have very high sugar content and should be avoided. He reminded them that a healthy lifestyle was very important. He also spoke separately to sixth class pupils about the importance of having goals in life and striving to achieve those goals. He is an important role model for many of our pupils and they paid great attention to his advice.
